A recent postcard from sunny Edinburgh from sisters Penny and Suki making their pilgrimage to the yarn-lovers’ mecca that is the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. I first met Penny when she came along to the knitting group I set up shortly after moving from London to West Cumbria in 2016. I met her sister Suki shortly afterwards when she also paid a visit, but we both realised that we had met one another many years earlier – when I owned a knitting shop in London between 2005 and 2009 Suki was a regular visitor. One of those strange coincidences that defy any kind of logical explanation – “it’s a small world” indeed.

I was immersed in the knitting world for a few years, and we did rather well, putting in a lot of work and many many hours, we built a great little business but more importantly a friendly and welcoming place for knitters and crafters. The shop, I Knit London, is, I’m pleased to say, still going strong. We even won a few awards, which was very gratifying! I don’t knit a whole lot nowadays, but I haven’t forgotten the voracious appetite for new squishy yarns and the appeal of big shows like EYF, where addicts can get their hands on just about anything woolly-related.
