Do people still send postcards these days…?
My name is Jacqueline. My favourite singer is Guus Meeuwis. He’s a famous Dutch singer. On May 24 he was with his band in the Royal Albert Hall. This was very special. Unfortunately I was unable to be there.

Another card that came my way last year via Postcrossing; only received it today after having moved house and put things in limbo for a few months. This Dutch card shows a character from the TV series Buurman & Buurman and is sold in aid of a children’s charity, Kinderpostzegels. It’s a new one on me, but the character design screams Europe to me – there’s something in the style, perhaps it’s the beret, that make this chap Continental even without the background info.
Also new to me is Guus Meeuwis. I consider myself fairly well up on music, regular gig-goer and voracious listener, but this Dutch pop singer has so far escaped my attention. It’s interesting that he played at the Royal Albert Hall whilst I was living in London, another of their random acts over recent years, especially international acts who often play to native emigrants and pack the place out. After almost 150 years playing at the RAH is still a milestone in a career, and it’s a sign of Meeuwis’ status that he can perform there in a country where he hasn’t had any hit singles or albums.
