Do people still send postcards these days…?

To Miss Annie Bates, 97 Iffley Road, Oxford… (1983)

Dear Annie, You were right about Paris. I absolutely love it! Everywhere we go is beautiful. We have already done so much. Yesterday we walked our feet off and saw Notre Dame, Invalides, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph. We started out near the Gar du Nord and finished up there. Today my feet got sore also. We spent the morning in the Louvre and the afternoon on the Champs Elysees and then saw the Manet exhibition which was great. The hotel we booked couldn’t be found so we found another on the Rue Charlot! It is very quaint and cheap and run by some nice young men one of whom is in our room right now. Bye for now   Love Julie

PS The young mans name is Ahmed and is from Morocco and very cute. He is writing in my diary right now. We were on the metro today and we didn’t have any flashers. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

I love this. I think the missing word is ‘metro’.

Thanks AndrewJames, you’re right. It is ‘metro’. I love this too, it’s what I’d call a perfect example of how to write a postcard: info, personality, time and place.

I came across this blog purely by accident – I was googling to see what the postcards inside of the packet of 100 Flowers (RHS) look like (you have a post about how these box sets of cards are proliferating).
Found myself looking at various postcards you pick to put up here.
I fell in love with this postcard and how it captures that certain je ne sais quoi about going somewhere and sending someone a postcard, and receiving a postcard and this being the only convenient, affordable way of sending someone your greetings from a different country…
    How precious it was…

PS It also made me determined to send postcards from Amsterdam when I go there in February!
